As a Mainframe Developer, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing software applications and systems that run on mainframe computers. Your primary goal is to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of mainframe-based applications, enabling organizations to process and manage their data effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, code, test, and debug software applications and components for mainframe systems. Develop new features and functionality or modify existing ones to meet business requirements.
- Collaborate with other IT professionals, including system architects, database administrators, and network engineers, to integrate mainframe applications with other systems and technologies.
- Identify and address performance bottlenecks in mainframe applications. Optimize code and system configurations to ensure efficient and responsive performance.
- Investigate and resolve software defects and system issues. Conduct root cause analysis to identify the underlying causes of problems and implement solutions.
- Maintain thorough documentation of code, configurations, and processes. Ensure that code changes and enhancements are well-documented for future reference.
- Implement security measures and compliance standards to protect sensitive data processed on mainframe systems. Ensure that applications meet regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with business analysts and end-users to understand their requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within scope.
- Provide ongoing maintenance and support for mainframe applications, including troubleshooting issues, applying patches, and performing routine system checks.
- Use version control systems to manage and track changes to code and configurations, ensuring version consistency and easy rollback when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Strong knowledge of mainframe technologies, including languages like COBOL, PL/I, and Assembler.
- Proficiency in using mainframe development tools and utilities.
- Experience with mainframe databases (e.g., DB2) and data access methods.
- Familiarity with batch processing and job scheduling on mainframes.
- Understanding of mainframe security and compliance standards.
- Problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work in a team and independently.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Mainframe certification(s).
- Experience with modernization efforts, such as migrating legacy systems to newer platforms.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies relevant to mainframe systems, such as cloud integration.
